Our mission is to help people to grow in the love, life and mission of Jesus - because we believe that Jesus is the source of true human flourishing!

WE GROW IN THE LOVE of Jesus as we encounter Jesus' love in a personal way, within the context of our warm, caring community of faith.

WE GROW IN THE LIFE of Jesus as we learn, pray, and share our lives together. As we do this the Spirit of God transforms us from the inside out and we live out more fully the life of Jesus through our own life.

WE GROW IN THE MISSION of Jesus as together we are equipped with God's heart for the world and are encouraged to put our time, talent and treasure at the service of God's purposes.

Our Vision

We want to show the world why the local Church is the hope of the world!

And we aim to be a model community which other churches in Australia and beyond can learn from and in doing so to provide a spark of renewal in the Catholic Church.

We do this by modelling an inspiring culture of vibrant and supportive community life for all ages, a focus on personal conversion, spirit-filled prayer experiences, robust faith formation, a strong investment in leadership development, and a commitment to caring for the poor and marginalised.

Our Priests

St Benedict's is under the care of the Missionaries of God's Love (MGL), a charismatic and contemplative Religious congregation founded in Australia. Currently we have two MGL priests serving our community:

Fr Dan Serratore MGL - Fr Dan hails from Sydney, and before entering the seminary managed pubs and ran a small finance business. He was ordained a priest in 2016 and has since been in Burwood. Fr Dan has a great vision for what the Church is called to be and how we can model that at St Ben's. He also enjoys a variety of sports including tennis, golf, soccer and snowboarding, as well as reading, watching Formula 1, and cheering on the mighty Sydney Swans.

Fr Cam Smith MGL - A local, Fr Cam grew up in the south-east of Melbourne. St Ben's is his first appointment as a priest, having been ordained at the end of 2020. He studied chemistry and materials science before following the path to the priesthood, and still loves to dabble in maths and physics. If you keep an eye out, you might see him around the streets of Burwood, as he likes cycling and walking, as well as reading good books, playing good music and eating good food.
